Crystal Palace reach agreement with Lyon for Malick Fofana transfer, but…

Olympique Lyonnais are reported to have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace regarding the transfer of Malick Fofana (21), according to L’Équipe.

The Belgian winger, who had travelled to England to sign for Sunderland AFC after OL and the Black Cats had agreed terms for a deal worth €35m including bonuses, is now set to head to south London after all. This turnaround is largely due to a telephone conversation this morning between Fofana and Eagles manager Pierre Sage, whom he played under in the Rhône region.

Lyon, who had hoped to secure €40m for the sale of their rising star, are now set to come closer to their asking price, with the Selhurst Park side offering a package valued at €39m – although details still need to be finalised.

However, caution is advised, as this situation could take a new turn in the coming hours, with Sunderland and Arsenal yet to decide whether to withdraw completely from the race to sign the 21-year-old.
