Enzo Fernandez deal, Alex Scott signs, 22 leave – Chelsea's dream end to the transfer window

The summer transfer window will slam shut at 11pm on Tuesday, September 1 and the Chelsea sporting leadership team have lots of work to do

Chelsea have plenty of work to do before the transfer window slams shut at the start of next month...

The sporting leadership team at Stamford Bridge have managed to significantly bolster the squad, forking out more than £200million on six new players. The Blues leapt out of the gates at the start of the summer, signing Marco Palestra ahead of some top clubs.

A few weeks later, Chelsea forked out £117m to secure the signature of Morgan Rogers, making him the most expensive British player of all time. Before the end of July, the Blues made a long-overdue addition to the heart of the defence, wrapping up a deal worth £52m for Maxence Lacroix.

Chelsea then sandwiched the addition of Valentin Barco between the arrivals of Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. Pep Chavarria looks set to become the seventh signing of the summer, finally filling the void left by Marc Cucurella.

Although the sporting leadership team have backed Xabi Alonso by bringing in exciting players who fit his style of play, there's still plenty of work to be done in the coming weeks. Higher-ups at Stamford Bridge still need to bring in a top midfielder to bridge the gulf in quality from those who start to those who don't, resolve the future of Enzo Fernandez, and streamline the squad.

Chelsea sign Bournemouth star

Chelsea should sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth before the transfer window slams shut. The 22-year-old midfielder would be an excellent addition to the squad; not only would he bridge the gap in quality from Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez to those next in line, but he'd also have the chance to become an undisputed starter.

At the end of last month, the Blues had a £64m bid for Scott rejected by Bournemouth. After a great season on the south coast, the Cherries star attracted interest from Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

It's understood that Bournemouth are insistent that Scott is not for sale this summer, though. He's said to have turned down a contract extension offer, though...

Alonso holds Chelsea fire sale

Chelsea could offload as many as 22 players before the transfer window slams shut. Of course, much of the outgoing business relies on other clubs' interest and market opportunities at the time, but the Blues need to find new clubs for a LOT of players, whether on loan or permanently.

To be loaned: Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Omari Kellyman, Shim Mheuka, Reggie Walsh, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Kendry Paez.

To be sold: Tosin Adarabioyo, Romeo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, David Datro Fofana, Liam Delap, Gabriel Slonina, Malo Gusto, Emmanuel Emegha, Pedro Neto, Dario Essugo, Ishé Samuels-Smith, Deivid Washington.

Chelsea finally resolve Fernandez saga

While the sporting leadership team put the finishing touches on preparing the squad for the new season, they need to resolve the future of Fernandez. The 25-year-old midfielder, who flirted with a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer, can still play a key role for Chelsea under Alonso.

It may take a while to earn back the trust of the supporters, the players, and the coaching staff, but Fernandez could have a future at Stamford Bridge if he really wants to. He would probably need to begin by penning a heartfelt apology and perhaps signing a new contract to prove his loyalty.

Once Fernandez has a foot in the door again, he can then let his performances on the pitch do the talking. It'll be difficult to engineer, but it would certainly be worth it.

The Argentine is a top player at the end of the day, and he makes the Blues a much better outfit. So, in an ideal world, at the end of the transfer window, the Chelsea squad should look something a little like this:
