Bayer Leverkusen defender was dismissed for a reckless tackle on Jesus Gallardo
The
FA
are considering their options over the possibility of appealing to
FIFA
against
Jarell Quansah
’s red card.
Standard Sport
understands the FA are weighing up whether or not to make an appeal
against the sending-off against Mexico
and subsequent suspension for Quansah.
England
right-back was dismissed in
the 54th minute of the 3-2 victory at the Estadio Azteca
in the round of 16.
His tackle on Jesus Gallardo was deemed worthy of a red card by the VAR team as he followed through with studs up despite first winning the ball.
As it stands, Quansah will be suspended and unavailable for Saturday’s
World Cup
quarter-final against Norway in Miami, potentially causing yet more chaos in the right-back position for
head coach
Thomas Tuchel
, who was left furious by the decision.

"It's just not good enough,” he said. “The referees are just not good enough, fourth officials are just not good enough. That's the bottom line.
“Is this a clear and obvious error for the penalty? For sure not.”
Reece James is one option to stand in at right back, though his fitness levels are unclear after he missed three matches with a hamstring problem, and Tuchel has not seemed impressed with Djed Spence’s performances there. The Tottenham man did, however, make a positive cameo against Mexico.
A precedent has been set at this tournament for suspensions being struck off after the United States striker
Folarin Balogun
saw his one-match ban suspended.
He was sent off against Bosnia & Herzegovina for a reckless tackle, but, after Donald Trump made a phone call to
president Gianni Infantino to request a review, his one-match ban was suspended for 12 months.
The Monaco man will now be available for the United States’ last-16 meeting with Belgium on Monday night.
