Manchester United youngster Jack Moorhouse has returned to the base prematurely after suffering a nasty injury.

The 20-year-old has been one of the most interesting prospects to emerge from the club’s academy over the past few years.

After last season’s experience at Leyton Orient, the midfielder attracted interest from Dundee FC, who signed him on loan on the summer transfer market’s deadline day.

Moorhouse made his debut in the Scottish Premiership with a 45-minute appearance against Hearts, who beat Dundee by two goals to one.

The following game, the youngster was in the starting lineup, helping the Dark Blues beat Motherwell 2-1.

Sadly for the MUFC loanee, this may have been his last appearance for Dundee, as The Courier reveals that the player has sustained a ‘devastating’ injury.

Moorhouse thus returned to Carrington to undergo the required clinical tests. The results confirmed the worst, and the Ireland U21 international is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

As the source explains, Moorhouse is curiously the third Dundee player to suffer an ACL injury since the start of the season, as his teammates Simon Murray and Fin Robertson had suffered similar fates.

Unfortunately, ACL tears are becoming increasingly common in football. These injuries are widely considered the most devastating for athletes, as they require a long and agonising rehabilitation program, and many fail to regain their pre-injury form.

As for Moorhouse, he is described in the report as an ‘exciting’ young player who managed to show ‘flashes of real quality’ in his two appearances in Scotland.

Therefore, we can only hope that the young midfielder overcomes this hurdle and returns stronger next season.

That being said, it won’t be easy for the youngster to bounce back after potentially losing an entire season at this crucial stage of his development.
