“Looks like his season is over”: Man United academy star suffers devastating injury setback on loan

Manchester United midfield prodigy Jack Moorhouse has suffered a cruel injury blow while on loan at Dundee.

Earlier this month, Moorhouse sealed a season-long loan move to Dundee from Manchester United.

The youngster had alternatives available but elected to join Dundee, with both him and United of the view that it represented the best environment for his continued development.

A United player since the age of eight, Moorhouse has trained with the first team multiple times. He joined League One side Leyton Orient in August 2025, making 24 appearances before heading back to Manchester United on winter deadline day.

Moorhouse has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level, making his debut in a match against Scotland in March 2025 that ended in defeat.

The 20-year-old has made two appearances for Dundee, against Motherwell and Heart of Midlothian. Now, Dundee boss Steven Pressley has confirmed that his season is over after he suffered an ACL injury.

Moorhouse has returned to Manchester United.

Devastating blow

Pressley said on Tuesday, “Jack Moorhouse looks like he’s picked up an ACL injury in the bounce game we played last week.”

“It was a very innocuous challenge but he had swelling the following day. He’s had a scan back down in Manchester.”

“It very much looks like his season is over, which is devastating for Jack and for us. We’d waited a long time to get him and were very excited about the impact he could make on the team and in Scottish football.”

“So it’s really disappointing, for Jack first and foremost, but also for Dundee because we were looking forward to helping him develop.” Moorhouse’s ACL injury is the third one Dundee have had to deal with in two months after Simon Murray and Fin Robertson suffered the same fate.

Pressley remarked, “I have never known anything like it as a manager. I remember as a player at Rangers we had a spell getting a few in quick succession one season.”

“But to get three in seven weeks is something I’ve never encountered before. It’s difficult to identify the reason behind it and as a staff we’ve sat down to discuss a lot of aspects. Could we have done anything differently? Are we doing anything differently which could have impacted this?”

“We certainly don’t want to leave any stone unturned just in case there is. It will be very difficult to say for sure if there’s a root cause or is it just bad luck? We’re certainly looking at it, that’s for sure.”

“We’ve had a long discussion about it because as a staff we’re always analysing our performance and trying to be better. But with these ones, it’s very difficult to identify a core reason for it.”

Meanwhile, United are next in action on 10 October when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. season-long loan move to Dundee.
