Man City's shameless defiance lasts just 13 minutes as PSG dish out their own punishment

Manchester City's shameless act of defiance lasted less than 13 minutes. That's all it took for Paris Saint-Germain to inflict their own punishment on rivals who could well have a lot more of the stuff to come.

Three goals before half-time from Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha helped Luis Enrique's men give City a good kicking when they're down.

At least Pep Guardiola got to see a fireworks and laser show before kick off, as his former club attempted to pretend life was normal, despite being found guilty of industrial financial cheating.

Guardiola returned to the scene of the crime, to lend his support to his former club in their hour of need. He probably wished he hadn't bothered.

The harsh truth appeared to be that he hadn't been missed since stepping down at the end of last season. Enzo Maresca had made the perfect start to succeeding the Spaniard, winning his first six games in charge.

1. Head THIS WAY

But making it seven at the expense of the best side in Europe was a different ball-game altogether. Quite literally, as PSG would go on to prove. PSG arrived in town as reigning, back-to-back Champions League holders.

A team which could afford to leave Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the bench. One hell-bent on making it a hat-trick of titles. Warren Zaire-Emery tested Gianluigi Donnarumma from long range, while Ruben Dias had to intervene with Dembele poised to strike.

PSG had made an impressive start. But it became a stunning one when the French giants ripped City to pieces to score twice in as many minutes.

Doue finished off a quicksilver move covering the length of the pitch, by drilling a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to the visitors inside 13 minutes. And before City could process what had happened, the deficit had been doubled.

Doue turned provider this time, taking a cross from Dembele before returning the favour for Dembele to plant a header past Donnarumma from close range.

Erling Haaland tried to respond, but was snuffed out by a superb challenge from Willian Pacho. Haaland then wasted a headed chance as the nightmare continued.

Vitinha drew a sharp save from Donnarumma, while Achraf Hakimi hit the post, as PSG went in search of a third which arrived moments later thanks to Vitinha's clinical finish.

It was the first time since 2015 City had conceded three first-half goals. It was also at times reminiscent of watching the same football that great Barcelona team used to produce under a certain Guardiola.

Enzo Fernandez's mistake almost gifted PSG a fourth. It was becoming embarrassing. Maresca made a triple change at the start of the second half.

But it was Haaland who offered a glimmer of hope when he headed past Matvei Safonov to give City a lifeline. Maresca's men looked like a different team, with more passion and energy. Enzo Fernandez headed wide and PSG looked slightly rattled for a spell.

But when Donnarumma failed to keep out stinging strike from Akliouche just after the hour mark, the game was done and dusted.

Donnarumma appeared to have kept out the curling shot with a sublime save, but when the ball landed it spun back across the line, despite the scrambling efforts of the Italian.

All that was left was for Maresca's men to limit the damage - which Haaland helped them do with his second of the night. But it was all in vain. PSG could even afford to miss a late penalty.
