Man United chief Omar Berrada’s heartfelt message to fans ahead of first home game

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada has sent a message to supporters ahead of the season’s first home game later on Sunday.

Michael Carrick and his players will be eager to register their first win of the campaign when they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

United were humbled by Hull City last weekend in a display that fell well short of expectations.

Carrick was quick to shut down suggestions that the players lacked desire, although he acknowledged that the performance was unacceptable.

Like Hull, Ipswich represents a tricky test for United and there is no room for complacency. As United look forward to the fixture, Berrada penned a letter to the fans.

Berrada’s message

The United chief began, “Welcome back to Old Trafford for the first home game of the Premier League season, where we host newly promoted Ipswich Town. I hope you have all had a good summer. We were incredibly proud to see so many of our players representing their countries in the World Cup. It’s an achievement which will live long in the memory for all of them and their families.”

“We have had a busy pre-season, with games in Helsinki, Trondheim, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Dublin and Wroclaw. We hosted a range of fantastic events and hugely enjoyed meeting local fans and those who travelled from the UK.”

“A particular highlight was our historic game at Croke Park; the first time two English teams have played in that stadium, in front of 82,000 fans. It was an occasion which demonstrated once again our amazing following in Ireland and the bond between Dublin and Manchester.”

“The new campaign represents Michael Carrick’s first full season as head coach, and we look forward to seeing the team continuing to take shape under Michael and all his coaching staff.”

Berrada urged supporters to afford new signings Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, Tynan Thompson and Carlos Baleba a warm welcome.

He also welcomed back Marcus Rashford, expressing hope that the England international will contribute positively.

Berrada added, “We have an exciting season ahead and are particularly looking forward to competing once again in the Champions League, in which we have had so many memorable nights in this great stadium. It is where we always want to be.”

The 48-year-old also turned his attention to the women’s side, voicing his belief that Eva Olid’s arrival as manager could herald a successful season ahead.
