Manchester United vs Ipswich: Predicted XI, Mason Mount Return and Carlos Baleba Injury Update
Manchester United head into their first home game of the new season needing a response. A 2-0 defeat at Hull on opening weekend offered very little in attack and left Michael Carrick with questions to answer before Ipswich arrive at Old Trafford on Sunday.
There is some good news. Mason Mount is back in contention after returning to training this week, following the ankle injury he suffered against Paris Saint-Germain in pre-season. He may not be thrown straight in from the start, but his availability gives Carrick another option in a squad that looked flat and short of ideas last time out.

Mount boost for Manchester United
Carrick came through the Hull defeat without fresh injuries, which matters after a disrupted summer. Mount is the obvious positive, while Marcus Rashford is pushing strongly to start after appearing from the bench in the opener. That change feels logical. United lacked pace, directness and any real threat in the final third.
Patrick Dorgu could make way if Rashford comes in, with Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes operating behind Matheus Cunha. Benjamin Sesko is still working his way back after a shin problem, so Cunha looks set to continue as the central striker.
Midfield choices under scrutiny
Kobbie Mainoo is also pressing for a recall. Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos failed to convince against Hull, and Carrick may decide he needs more control and intensity in midfield. The likely solution is Mainoo alongside Tielemans, with Fernandes given freedom further forward.
At the back, there is less room for manoeuvre because injuries still limit the options.
Carlos Baleba forced to wait
New signing Carlos Baleba will not make his debut yet. The £70 million midfielder arrived from Brighton carrying an ankle ligament injury picked up during a pre-season training camp in Austria. He is expected to be out for “two or three weeks”.
Amad Diallo is also out for “a little bit longer”, while Tom Heaton, Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte remain unavailable.
