Manchester City ‘found guilty’ on most Premier League financial charges

Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty on almost all Premier League financial charges by an independent commission.

talkSPORT reports that the other 19 Premier League clubs were told on Thursday that City were guilty on all but one of their 115 charges. The Athletic says sanctions have not yet been decided.

The Premier League declined to comment, saying the process is ongoing. City are to appeal, according to those reports.

City said the league process remains ongoing with significant elements outstanding under strict confidentiality, and that their stance is unchanged from February 2023. The club said it has respected due process for eight years and expects the Premier League board and executive to act independently and without partisan influence.

City were charged in February 2023 after an investigation that began in 2018. Allegations included inaccurate financial reporting across nine seasons from 2009-10 to 2017-18, incomplete details of Roberto Mancini’s pay between 2009-10 and 2012-13, incomplete disclosure of player remuneration from 2010-11 to 2015-16, and failure to co-operate between 2018 and 2023.

They denied the allegations and said they welcomed a commission to consider what they called irrefutable evidence. They were referred to the commission that month while heading for a third of four straight league titles. Four months after the charge, they won the Champions League for the first time in their history, and the commission hearing began on 16 September 2024.
