Michael Carrick reveals Manchester United transfer plan as Deadline Day looms

Red Devils have been tipped to bolster porous defence

United have spent heavily so far this summer, overhauling the midfield with the additions of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and, most recently Carlos Baleba.

Tielemans and Santos have both been heavily involved in the opening stages of the campaign, but Baleba, who arrived with an ankle injury, is likely weeks away from making his debut.

The transfer window will not close until 11pm BST on Tuesday night, and while Carrick admits he is pleased with United’s signings so far, he seemed to hint there could be more incomings on the way.

“We've done some fantastic business. With the money we've spent, we've done it very well. So far, we're happy,” he told Sky Sports, speaking after United’s 5-2 defeat of Ipswich on Sunday.

“You're always looking for more if you can do something else and make the most of the situation.

“At the moment, the group's in a good place, and they want to fight for each other, which is important.”

It remains to be seen where United may look to strengthen in the dying hours of the window, but after conceding four to newly-promoted sides in their opening two Premier League matches, a defensive bolster might be expected.

They have been quite heavily linked with Newcastle full-back Lewis Hall, but a deal does not seem to be anywhere near completion.

Luke Shaw, the man Hall would be tasked with backing up or replacing, was at fault for Ipswich’s first on Sunday, but the Englishman promised to come back stronger: “I'm disappointed in myself for the first goal, someone with that experience I should be doing much better so I take responsibility for that. That's not me and I was extremely disappointed with myself.”
