Xabi Alonso insists he wants to keep Enzo Fernandez at
Chelsea
this summer.
Fernandez had been heavily linked to Real Madrid, and was suspended by
for two games last season following comments made in which he expressed a desire to live in Madrid in the future.
Real Madrid, however,
released a statement earlier this month
saying they had “no intention” to sign the Argentina midfielder, who is currently at the World Cup.
“Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved,” they added.
On the conversations he has had with Fernandez, Alonso said: “We spoke, but what we spoke about remains private.”
Asked if he wants to keep him at the club, the
boss simply replied: “Yeah.”

A player who does look likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, however, is Alejandro Garnacho.
The winger is not yet taking part in Chelsea’s pre-season preparations while a move away from the club is discussed.
“We have spoken with the sporting directors and there is interest from him, from other clubs, so let’s see how it develops,” Alonso explained.
“Hopefully it finishes in the best possible way for all parties.”
Nicolas Jackson, however, could yet stay at
, having returned following a loan spell at Bayern Munich last season.
“He will join the tour in Asia and we’re looking forward to starting with Nico at that time,” Alonso said.
