Pedro predicts trophies for Chelsea thanks to 'very special' attacking weapons

Joao Pedro believes Chelsea’s deadly trio will leave Premier League defenders chasing shadows this season.

Chelsea forwards Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer were all on target in their first win of the season at Fulham to send out a clear title warning to the rest. They have got big trophies in their sights under new boss Xabi Alonso and Chelsea might just have the best forward line in the top flight.

Brazil star Pedro believes their movement, understanding and goals will make them “very special” and incredibly difficult to stop.

He said: “Cole and Morgan are special players. Everyone knows that. I'm very grateful to play with them because I know if I make some runs, if you know Cole, Morgan's going to give the ball to me and I have to be ready to score. So it's very special.

“I think now in the game, if we move a lot, it will be difficult for defenders to pick up one player to stay. And the manager let us be free on the pitch, so we understand each other well. I think this helps us, and hopefully, it can happen more times.

“When you play for Chelsea, you always need to look for that (the biggest trophies), and I think we’ve already had a great game to show our power and hopefully we can continue like this in the season.”

Chelsea boss Alonso clearly has a turbo-charged front three because Pedro and Palmer had the summer off after not making the Brazil and England squads respectively. Rogers is the club’s £117m British record transfer buy and looks energized after England’s World Cup campaign.

They have been marked down by many pundits as potential challengers to champions Arsenal as they have an elite manager and, with no European football, time to work in training as well as extra rest.

Pedro believes Rogers will be a huge addition to the squad while they are also relishing the chance to work under Alonso. He said: “The summer was very good because I didn't go to Brazil squad in the World Cup, so I had a time to recover myself, relax a bit, to be ready.

“I think we need to go step by step. We have to focus on the Premier League and the cups. We have a lot of time to train as well to know what the coach wants from us. I think everyone wants to be at Chelsea. It's a big club. It's a pleasure to play here, and I'm very happy here. I will enjoy this season with Morgan because I think we can achieve high.

“I know Morgan from a long time ago because we played against each other. So when he joined the club, I knew. It was very good for us because he's a very good player, and I think he can help us like he has already.”

Pedro has also taken the No9 shirt this season which is a big thing for Chelsea fans because they have seen so many big names fail wearing that in the past. Mateja Kezman, Hernan Crespo, Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain, Tammy Abraham, Romelu Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Liam Delap have all worn it in the past and struggled.

But Pedro insists he has no fears about it - and is relishing the chance to score a lot of goals this season after getting off to a good start. He added: “I just try to do my job. I don't believe in that. Every player is different. I think now I know my responsibility in the group, but I don't think numbers can decide this pressure.
