Liverpool have announced the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for £123million. The Reds will pay the French giants an initial fee of £106m, plus a potential further £17m in add-ons for the winger.

Barcola was Liverpool's No.1 transfer target in the summer transfer window, but it has taken until the day before the deadline for the deal to be completed. He completed a medical on Sunday, the day after Andoni Iraola's side drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Liverpool agreed personal terms with Barcola last month, but PSG drove a hard bargain in negotiations. The 23-year-old becomes Liverpool's second most expensive signing of all time, just ahead of Florian Wirtz (£116.5m) and behind only Alexander Isak, who cost £125m from Newcastle last summer.

He becomes the fourth major signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo. His arrival has thrown into question the future of Cody Gakpo, who could join Manchester City in a £85m deal, with Liverpool looking at Brighton's Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr as replacements.

"It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy," Barcola, who got 39 goals and delivered 35 assists in 152 appearances for PSG, told the club website. "It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play.

"I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that's why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it."

He added: "I had the chance to play twice in this stadium and I saw the atmosphere and how the fans were behind the Liverpool players. When I knew about Liverpool's interest in me, I didn't ask questions and I knew it was a very big club for me."

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard believes it's a brilliant piece of business for Liverpool. "Incredible talent," Gerrard said on TNT Sports before the Nottingham Forest game. "This is a player who has won two Champions Leagues in the last two years. I don't think he's hit his ceiling yet, still think there's potential there.

"Growth. He can evolve into an even better player which is very exciting. But it's the type of level of player that's going to help take Liverpool to the next level.. So I think it's a fantastic deal."
