Top Man United target Alejandro Balde decides where he will play his football this season – Fabrizio Romano

For the past few days, reports have suggested that Alejandro Balde could be leaving Barcelona.

Last week, his agent Jorge Mendes held talks with the Barcelona chief over his future at the club, after Joao Cancelo’s signing left the Spaniard questioning his role and importance there.

Thereafter, it was reported that Mendes was looking for a new home for Balde, with Manchester United quickly emerging as a likely destination.

INEOS were keen to bring Balde to Old Trafford on a loan deal. However, as they looked to pull off such a move, Fabrizio Romano dropped a big update explaining why that may not be the case.

Balde wants to remain at Camp Nou

The European transfer guru says:

“Alejandro Balde has informed Barcelona about his desire to STAY at the club and compete for a spot this season again.

“The left-back’s intention is clear; decision up to the club after exploring sale in the recent weeks, but no official bid received.

“Only a big proposal from a top European club can change the scenario from now to Deadline Day; Balde has been clear. Manchester United asked for conditions but never sent bids.”

Back in the team

Romano further reveals that Balde, who was not included in Barcelona’s matchday squad for their win over Elche, will be back in the squad for the clash with Athletic Club on Wednesday.

Balde’s decision leaves United in a tricky situation regarding their left-back options.

It has been suggested that, before next week’s transfer deadline, the Red Devils hope to have signed a top left-back.

Luke Shaw needs some competition at left-back, as the Englishman cannot be expected to play every game like he did last season.

Transfer blow

Indeed, signing Balde on loan before then landing top target Lewis Hall next summer would have been the best move for the twenty-time English champions.

Now, INEOS must consider their options: pivot to other temporary solutions or pass on the move altogether.

That said, if no signing arrives, Noussair Mazraoui, Patrick Dorgu, and even Carlos Baleba, if needed, can fill in at left-back.
