Tottenham star Micky van de Ven makes exciting Omar Marmoush claim after Newcastle defeat

Tottenham are now winless from their opening two Premier League fixtures following a tough 2-0 home defeat at the hands of ruthless Newcastle

Micky van de Ven has told his Tottenham team-mates "now is not the time to panic" following a disastrous start to the Premier League season.

Spurs are winless from their opening two matches and have conceded five goals without even finding the target.

However, Van de Ven is mindful that good things take time, even if that is not what supporters want to hear on the back of an ambitious £382million spend.

He said following Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle : "There are a lot of games to go and I think there are a lot of positive things that we can take also from today.

"We don't have to panic because I think what you said before, there are some glimpses where we've played unbelievable football and now we need to make sure that the results are positive at the end of the game and not negative."

Roberto De Zerbi indicated after the game that he now had doubts over whether Tottenham were "ready" to reach the next level.

Van de Van feels now is the time to rally together, particularly as the new eight sparkly summer signings need time to gel.

He admits it was inevitable that Spurs would go through a period of adaptions given there were so many new recruits, explaining. "There are a lot of new players coming in, so a lot of things have changed because you need to get used to each other as well, especially on the pitch.

"I won't say it's executed for the results we had the last two games, but it's also something we need to improve.

"We need to get to know each other better and better and that's going to take some time probably, but we want to do it as quick as possible, to play as good as possible, that's the most important thing."

In his view, there was one positive in debutant Omar Marmoush - his former Wolfsburg team-mate.

The Egyptian caught the eye and could have won a second-half penalty under the challenge of Malick Thiaw.

Van de Van believes there is more to come from the Manchester City loanee, stating: I think Omar is a really good player, I know him already from the time we were at Wolfsburg together.

"Also over there you saw what a threat he is and what he can create for a team, I think he showed it once again today, so there is much more to come from him."

Home form remains an issue. In fact, only Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley have claimed less home points since the start of last season than Spurs.

That bugs the Dutch leader, who remarked: " It's really frustrating because at home you want to win every game of the season, if you play at home you feel the fans behind us every time over and over again and it feels a down.

"That's something we need to change because teams need to hate to play here because they know it's going to be a really, really tough game to play against away at Tottenham."
