Xabi Alonso sends message to Arsenal ahead of their meeting

Xabi Alonso is enjoying a brilliant start to life in the Premier League as Chelsea manager, and he believes his team is ready to face any opponent as they aim to compete for trophies this season.

The Spaniard has managed the Blues in two league matches and won both, giving him an excellent start to his time in the division. There could hardly have been a better beginning for a new manager, although he now faces a major test against Arsenal in his next match.

The Gunners must first face Aston Villa at Villa Park before welcoming Chelsea at home in their next league fixture. It promises to be an interesting meeting between two Spanish coaches with different levels of experience in the Premier League.

Alonso prepares for Arsenal test

Arteta is more experienced in the league, while Alonso is managing his third club, with all three of his managerial positions coming at teams competing in different top five European leagues.

The Chelsea boss oversaw an unbeaten and successful domestic season at Bayer Leverkusen, but he knows winning in the Premier League is different. His spell at Chelsea could prove harder than his time as manager of Real Madrid last season.

However, Alonso has enjoyed the start to life in West London and intends to do whatever it takes to win. He understands that every match can present different challenges and believes Chelsea must be ready to respond accordingly.

Chelsea want to compete for trophies

Speaking ahead of the next challenge, Alonso said via the Metro:

‘I want to win and will do whatever it takes to win.

‘Each game can be different so we need to prepare for the best.

‘We need to train for the best and be prepared for whatever scenario we have, so it’s not like this [performance] is going to be replicated against Arsenal.’

Alonso’s comments show that he is not expecting Chelsea to rely on their impressive opening performances when they eventually face Arsenal. Instead, he wants his players to prepare for the specific demands of every opponent.

That approach could be important against Arsenal, who will provide a different challenge from Chelsea’s first two league opponents. The Blues will need to maintain their strong start while adapting to the Gunners’ quality.

For Alonso, the upcoming fixture represents an early opportunity to demonstrate that Chelsea can compete against the strongest teams and continue their pursuit of trophies.
