LAS VEGAS
– Dominant defensive efforts in the first and fourth quarters, along with a spirited game-ending run, fueled the Phoenix Suns to
a 100-88 victory
over the Detroit Pistons in a
2026 NBA Summer League
matchup at Thomas and Mack Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Impressive performances from their two most recent first-round picks played a pivotal role in the Suns’ success. The
2025 No. 10 overall pick
, Khaman Maluach, scored a team-high 23 points and added a game-high 15 rebounds, while the
2026 No. 30 overall selection
, Koa Peat, contributed 19 points.
Rasheer Fleming, a
2025 second-round pick
, was next with 22 points, eight rebounds and one steal. Javonte Cooke furnished 12 points and five boards.
The game did have a bit of a rollercoaster quality to it, as the Suns saw a 27-13 lead after one quarter whittle down to four by the start of the final period. However, Phoenix nailed down the win with an impressive 11-1 run over the final three minutes to win going away. The Suns held the Pistons to a combined 27 points in the first and fourth quarters while outscoring them in the paint, 52-36.
Brice Williams paced the Pistons with a game-high 24 points, adding six rebounds and four assists. Isaac Jones generated an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The Pistons return to action Friday against the Miami Heat in a consolation game, while the Suns will meet a to-be-determined opponent on Saturday in a playoff matchup.
