Hull City set £3m Man United transfer expectation for player West Brom want to sign

Hull City and West Brom are both eyeing a deal for Toby Collyer that could cost up to £3 million

West Brom and Hull City could complete a deal to sign Toby Collyer for £3 million in the closing stages of the transfer window.

According to journalist Alex Crook, the Tigers are confident that this figure will be enough to convince Manchester United to cash in on the midfielder.

The 22-year-old is attracting interest from his two former loan clubs, and is seemingly not a part of Michael Carrick’s first team plans at Old Trafford.

This has fuelled speculation over a permanent exit this summer after returning from a spell at the MKM Stadium and the Hawthorns last season.

Collyer made 12 league appearances for the Baggies before an injury effectively cut short his time with the club, which led to him signing for Hull.

The youngster played just five times in the Championship for Sergej Jakirovic’s team, but helped them earn promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

It’s believed that Hull are hopeful of coming to an agreement with Man United for Collyer at a figure of £3 million before the market shuts on Tuesday.

The Premier League side are keen on the midfielder following his spell on loan at the club in the second half of the previous campaign.

However, West Brom are also interested in the 22-year-old, and it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to meet this £3 million figure.

The Baggies were leading the race to sign the youngster, but Hull’s interest has changed the landscape of his immediate future.

The Yorkshire outfit are able to offer top flight football this year after winning the play-offs in 2025/26.

Jakirovic’s side got off to a winning start to the new term, beating Carrick’s side 2-0 at the MKM Stadium.

Meanwhile, West Brom have earned victories in both of their opening league games.

How West Brom fans feel about Toby Collyer deal

West Brom fans have claimed that a deal for Collyer would not be worth it at a £3 million price point.

The Baggies have been told to avoid the deal if that is the cost, citing a poor injury record as a major factor.

West Brom fans are also sceptical that the club would even be willing to pay that much for the Man United player, and expect Hull to now win the race to his signature.

West Brom have until 1 September to complete their remaining transfer business before the market shuts.

Hull City have the edge in Toby Collyer race

Collyer will want to play regularly wherever he next ends up, and it’s not clear that he’d be a regular starter for Hull in the Premier League.

So perhaps West Brom could convince him to take the step down to the Championship in order to receive significant playing time.

However, the £3 million fee certainly puts the Tigers in the driving seat, as they can more easily afford that kind of figure at the moment, particularly for someone with his recent injury record.

The allure of the Premier League will also be quite tempting for Collyer, so the Baggies seem to only have an outside chance now of getting this deal over the line.
