Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa inflicted a miserable defeat on Tottenham Hotspur with the Newcastle United pair proving prolific in attack.

Spurs started slowly but sprang into life after 20 minutes and played some slick offensive football at times.

But Newcastle hung in there and were clinical in the second half, with two goals in ten minutes imposing Spurs’ second defeat of the season.

Not much he could have done about either goal albeit he somewhat flapped at the second. Slightly indecisive when coming off his line.

Kept Harvey Barnes quiet. Went relatively under the radar.

Jan Paul van Hecke - 6

Was comfortable despite conceding twice. Perhaps a tad slow to react to the corner delivery which gave Newcastle their second. Fine margins.

Micky van de Ven - 5

Relied on van Hecke to bail him out of trouble after he failed to deal with a long ball. Went into the book for a late challenge. Made a superb intervention before the break to prevent Yoane Wissa bombing through on goal. Goal came from his side. Inconsistent.

Andy Robertson - 5

Found Omar Marmoush in acres at the far post with a wicked corner delivery. Was too late to track Amar Dedic’s run for the opener.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 5

Wasn’t great in his duels, nor was he particularly imposing. Didn’t do much to get the ball from back to front either.

Sandro Tonali - 5

Picked out plenty of his former teammates as he struggled to find his passing range for the first 15 minutes. Came into it after that, though. Passes were not always perfectly executed but made progressive decisions. Questionable for the opener. Jeered by the away support when withdrawn.

Pedro Porro - 6

Made a good fist of playing out of position. Had a wicked volley from outside the penalty area loop just over the bar. Tried to make things happen offensively, particularly in the first half.

Mateus Fernandes - 5

Ordinary in midfield. Did not do much to catch the eye.

Mathys Tel - 6

Forced a big save and worked hard down the left in the first half. Took a woeful free-kick which soared well over the bar. Dropped off after the break.

Omar Marmoush - 6

Not a bad debut, result aside. Showed quick, tricky footwork when on the ball. Threaded some good passes. Dragged a chance wide of the post although the angle was tight. Promising.

Kept Newcastle alive in the first half with two brilliant stops - denying a curling effort from Tel and stopping a van Hecke header from point blank range. Deserves plenty of credit.

Amar Dedic - 7

Looks an intelligent buy at right-back. Played well against Liverpool last weekend. Bright again. His header from the right found Elanga to give Newcastle the lead.

Malick Thiaw - 7

Solid throughout. Gave Newcastle a good platform to build from.

Sven Botman - 7

Saw yellow. Handled the Spurs frontline well.

Lewis Hall - 8

Exceptional performance. Made a huge clearance followed by an even bigger block to deny Spurs the lead. Pinpoint corner delivery as Newcastle added their second.

Nico Gonzalez - 8

Managed 70 minutes and played two crisp balls over the top from deep. Pivotal to Newcastle’s first with a crossfield pass travelling 40 yards. Marshalled midfield well. Will prove an astute addition once fully fit.

Consistent. Covered plenty of ground in midfield. Will be tired this evening.

Anthony Elanga - 7

Exquisite finish into the bottom corner with his left foot. Managed to get around Kinsky earlier, too, but could not poke it in.

Joe Willock - 6

Didn’t create bundles as the ten. Fairly absent throughout.

Harvey Barnes - 6

Was kept quiet, with most of Newcastle’s entertaining play coming from the opposite side. Helped keep the solid shape defensively.

Yoane Wissa - 7

Acrobatic finish to wrap up three points for Newcastle. Made some good runs. Not always involved in play but made an impact when he was.
